Autumn is a beautiful time for hiking! The leaves glow in warm colors, the air is clear and fresh, and nature offers an unparalleled display of color. Our Wandergruppe Wald (Forest Hiking Group) warmly invites you to experience this magical time together – with hiking poles, of course!

What you should know

Our Wandergruppe Wald is suitable for all age groups and fitness levels. We value a comfortable pace, consciously perceiving nature, and enjoying the company. The hikes mainly take place in the forests around [insert town/region] and usually last between 2 and 4 hours. We are an open group, so you can spontaneously join, but a short email registration is appreciated so we can better plan the number of participants. The hikes are free of charge; we only ask for a contribution to travel costs if we drive together by car.

Why hiking poles? Many underestimate how helpful hiking poles can be. They relieve the knees and hips when going uphill and downhill, improve balance, and give you a feeling of security, especially on uneven terrain. They can also serve as small 'tactile probes' to identify obstacles and orient yourself better in dense forests. Hiking poles are also a real blessing for older hikers or people with knee problems.

  • Sturdy footwear: Hiking shoes with good tread are essential to avoid slipping. The forest floor can be wet and uneven.
  • Weather-resistant clothing: The weather in the forest can be unpredictable. Pack a rain jacket and warm clothing, even if the sun is shining.
  • Sufficient fluids: Drink plenty of water or unsweetened tea before, during, and after the hike.
  • Provisions: A small snack or picnic will give you energy for the hike.
  • Hiking poles: If you don't have your own, you can borrow a pair from us at the first hike. But there are also many affordable options in stores.

Practical tips

The right pole technique: It can be a bit strange at first to walk with poles. It's important that you place the poles at an angle of about 60 degrees to the ground and push off alternately. The steeper the terrain, the more you can use the poles for support. Be sure to use the grip sleeves to protect your hands. Some hikers prefer longer poles on flat terrain and shorter poles on steep terrain – just try what works best for you.

Safety in the forest: Before the hike, check the weather forecast and the condition of the trails. Take a cell phone with you...
